Ingredients

  • 1 ½ ounce tequila
  • Kosher salt
  • Lime wedge

Instructions

A shot of tequila is all about the preparation: Pour a little salt on the back of your hand, pour your tequila in a shot glass and have your lime wedge nearby. Lick the salt from your hand, shoot the tequila, then chase it with juice from the lime wedge.*

*Sipping it is cool too. After all, tequila should be enjoyed however you see fit.

Four small shot glasses are lined up diagonally atop a sunlit table sprinkled with salt. Four lime wedges balance atop each glass

Why we drink tequila with salt and lime

You often see tequila served alongside fresh lime juice, a lime garnish, and a salted rim — or in this case: A pinch of salt on the back of your hand — because salt helps with the burn you get from younger tequilas. Then, chasing the shot with a sour citrus wedge enhances the flavor of tequila and balances out its punchy flavor.
