Tea made from butterfly pea flower is blue in its natural state and changes colors based on the tea’s pH acidity level. We recommend you experiment, but here’s a quick mixing guide:
→ To keep your cocktail blue, add water or sip it straight

No, our vodka and tequila doesn’t taste strong, bitter or overly earthy like freshly brewed tea. Instead, Unicorn’s blue liquor has subtle sweet and floral notes, like a weak herbal tea.

Will the color of my Unicorn Distillery vodka and tequila fade over time?
Yes, our vodka and tequila’s blue color will slowly fade over time. The distinct flavor and color of Unicorn Butterfly Pea Tequila and Vodka comes from the infusion of natural tea flowers. No artificial colors or stabilizers are used, so while the flavor will last forever, its unique cobalt hue from infusion of butterfly pea flower will not. Fading of the natural color is accelerated by exposure to sunlight, which is why we use a black bottle to absorb light. For an optimal color experience, we recommend that you experience each bottle within a year of purchase and store in a cool place.
Does vodka go bad?
No, vodka doesn’t go bad or spoil. The hearty spirit has a long shelf life when unopened and can last for decades. The shelf life of an opened bottle of vodka is still 10-20 years. Opened or unopened, a bottle of vodka will eventually experience oxidation, weakening the flavor and alcohol content, but not necessarily spoiling the spirit. However, the blue hue of vodka by Unicorn Distillery will fade over time, as our vodka is crafted without preservatives, artificial color and stabilizers.
Does tequila go bad?

No, like other spirits, tequila doesn’t spoil. However, over time, tequila may lose its flavor and potency. We recommend drinking an open bottle of tequila within a year for the best flavor and storing it in a cool, dark place.

Yes, our color-changing tequila and vodka are is gluten-free — plus they’re all-natural, contain zero sugar and no carbs. Our vodka is distilled from a premium corn-based spirit and butterfly pea flower tea, while our tequila is made with non-GMO agave, crisp mountain water from the Cedar River Watershed and, of course, butterfly pea flower tea.
Does your vodka contain nuts?
No, Unicorn Butterfly Pea Vodka is not made from nuts. Only corn neutral-grain spirits and butterfly pea flower tea.

Is your brand named after magical horses?

No, the name Unicorn Distillery was (sort of accidentally) recommended to us by a startup team member who tried our vodka and declared it, “a unicorn.” In business, a unicorn is a startup company valued at $1 billion. It’s a rare thing, and the visionaries who make it happen are our chief inspiration.
