Tequila Mule

The tequila mule (aka Mexican mule) has a secret ingredient that makes it special: Ginger beer. Ginger beer’s unique, herbaceous spiciness adds a refreshing, fizzy zing to tequila’s earthy flavor profile.

  • 2 ounces tequila
  • 1 ounce lime juice (about 1 whole lime)
  • 4 ounces ginger beer
  • Lime wedge (optional)
  • Jalapeño slice (optional)

Instructions

Fill a copper mug with ice, tequila and lime juice. Top with ginger beer, stir and garnish with lime and jalapeño slices.

Why is it called a Mexican mule?

The tequila mule is also called the Mexican mule because it’s a spinoff of the Moscow mule, a popular cocktail made with vodka and ginger beer. While vodka originates in Russia, tequila originates in Mexico.
