Tequila Soda
Small ingredient list, big flavor — the tequila soda is a classic tequila cocktail for good reason. You may have heard the tequila and soda cocktail also called a tequila highball. Whatever you call it, the tequila soda is best enjoyed on a balmy day.

Beginner
Ingredients
- 2 ounces tequila*
- ½ ounce lime juice (about 2 lime wedges)
- 3 to 4 ounces club soda
- Lime wedge (optional)
Instructions
Fill a glass (highball or rocks works best) with ice, then squeeze in the juice of 2 lime wedges (about a ½ ounce of juice). Pour in the club soda and stir. Finish with a lime garnish.
*We recommend using a younger tequila variety, like blanco and mixto, as the stronger agave flavor pairs well with citrus. But use what you’ve got — we won’t judge.
Why tequila and soda work well together
It may not seem like a cocktail with just a few ingredients will be balanced, flavorful and refreshing, but the tequila soda checks all the boxes. So why does club soda, soda water or seltzer water taste so good with tequila? Because of its clean taste and fizzy mouthfeel, the tequila is allowed to be the star of the cocktail, with citrus as a backup singer.
