When was the paloma invented?

The first paloma cocktail recipe was published and credited to Evan Harrison in the 1953 pamphlet, “Popular Cocktails of The Rio Grande.” Legend has it Harrison stole the recipe from Manuel Gonzales, a bartender from the rival tavern. Apparently, Gonzales named the beverage after his sweetheart, since paloma translates to “dove.”
