Unicorn Mule

Color-Changing Moscow Mule

A Moscow mule is properly served in a chilled copper mug, but we recommend a double rocks glass for a Unicorn Mule in order to fully display the cocktail’s stunning color change.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Unicorn Butterfly Pea Vodka
  • ½ oz fresh lime juice
  • 4 to 6 oz ginger beer
  • Ice

Instructions

Drop a large, cocktail ice cube into a rocks glass. Pour Unicorn Distillery’s color-changing vodka over. Add ginger beer and top with fresh lime. Stir. Garnish with lime. Serve with a stirring rod.

For an even more dramatic effect, and a cocktail that gets better, rather than weaker, as it is sipped, prepare Unicorn Ice (Note that ginger beer and ginger ale are not the same things. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can sub ginger ale in any kind of mule.)

Unicorn vodka moscow mule

Color-Changing Moscow Mule

Temperature is critical to a good mule. A normal Moscow mule uses a copper mug to enhance the crisp sensation, so be sure to make up for using a glass by keeping your Unicorn Butterfly Pea Vodka very cold. You can store it in the freezer to make sure it’s as sharp as possible.

Our Vodka will pour bright blue over the ice and transform to a purple-pink hue with the addition of ginger beer and lime. Using Unicorn Ice will prolong the effect—not only maintaining the strength of the cocktail as it melts, but reintroducing that cobalt blue hue as well.

History of the Moscow Mule

A man walked into a bar … with a distillery full of vodka he couldn’t sell. That bar owner had a basement full of ginger beer he couldn’t sell. They met a woman with a stockpile of copper mugs she couldn’t move, and the rest is marketing.

During the ‘50s and ‘60s, the Moscow mule rose to fame via Hollywood. Today, more than a dozen popular variations exist, but none offer the same experience as a color-changing Unicorn Mule.
