The Color-Changing Vodka Martini
In addition to the complex flavor profile, of course, is the experience of pouring naturally blue vodka into your cocktail shaker, and then pouring a soft purple cocktail into your guest’s glass. Evolution of this classic cocktail.
History of the Martini
The origins of the classic martini — made with gin and vermouth—are unclear, but early versions of the cocktail date to the mid 1800s.
The earliest references to the vodka martini come from a 1951 cocktail book, but the cocktail didn’t gain widespread popularity until Sean Connery’s James Bond ordered a vodka cocktail, “shaken, not stirred” in 1964. The rising popularity of vodka in the ‘80s and ‘90s increased the vodka martini’s popularity.
Today, vodka is so closely associated with the martini that any new cocktail served in a martini glass is generally made with vodka — not gin — and the Unicorn Martini is the latest evolution of this classic cocktail.
