Essential Tequila Cocktails

Tequila cocktail recipes

Tequila is celebrated around the world for its distinct fruity, sweet and earthy flavor. The flavors range from notes of black pepper, oak and vanilla to citrus, caramel, and honey, making tequila the perfect spirit for mixing.

Tequila that has been aged tends to be smoother and richer than younger varieties. We recommend crafting cocktails with blanco and mixto tequilas, as their strong flavors pair excellently with citrus. Only have añejo or extra añejo on hand? Those smooth flavors will create a new flavor profile worth exploring.

Tequila Soda

It’s refreshing, easy to make, fizzy and perfect on a warm day — what’s not to love about the classic tequila soda? With minimal ingredients, the perfect tequila and soda is all about balancing the ingredients.
We’ll show you how.

Classic Margarita

When you hear ‘tequila,’ you may think of the delicious margarita — and you wouldn’t be alone. The margarita’s history is steeped in mysterious lore, but what we know for a fact is how these citrus-forward mixers pair perfectly with tequila.

Tequila Paloma

Paloma is Spanish for “dove,” which is a symbol of peace — and we couldn’t be more at peace when sipping this pretty, pink drink. Grab your Jarritos, Fresca or Squirt from the fridge and let’s craft this refreshing cocktail.

Two tall highball glasses garnished with a cherry and orange wedge are layered with orange juice then bright red grenadine at the bottom. The cocktails sit atop a cool-toned wood table next to orange wedges and a bowl of cherries

Tequila Sunrise

The earthy-meets-tangy punch that tequila and orange juice gives your tastebuds is one of a kind, which is why the colorful tequila sunrise has remained one of the most popular tequila cocktails since its creation in the Prohibition era.

Four small shot glasses are lined up diagonally atop a sunlit table sprinkled with salt. Four lime wedges balance atop each glass

Tequila Shot

Whether you’re sipping or shooting, the tequila shot is always a good time. It’s the mark of a lively party, a way to celebrate anything. If you’re a first-timer, we’ll walk you through the delicate dance that is taking a tequila shot with salt and lime. Cheers.

Tequila and Coke
(aka Batanga)

If rum and coke had a baby with a margarita, you’d get the tequila and coke. The Batanga drink was first created in Tequila, Mexico using Mexican Coke, so bonus points if you can find those glass bottles of goodness.

Tequila Mule
(aka Mexican Mule)

The Mexican mule is a spinoff of the Moscow mule, which marries vodka and ginger beer. Ginger beer’s unique, herbaceous spiciness adds a refreshing zing to any cocktail it graces.

Low on ingredients and high on flavor — tequila and tonic are a match made in booze heaven. With such simple ingredients, this cocktail is all about getting the right proportions to create a well-balanced sip. We’ll show you how.

Tequila Sour

It’s not every day that you see a tequila recipe with egg white, making the tequila sour an exciting taste and texture experience, for tequila newbs and connoisseurs alike. Here’s how to make it, plus how to make a vegan tequila sour too.

Salty Dog drink

Salty Dog

Legend has it, the salty dog dates all the way back to the 1920s. Its citrus-forward flavors have stood the test of time — and we couldn’t be more grateful. Fun fact: If you make a salty dog but skip the salt rim, it’s now a tequila greyhound.

Tequila Sunset

The tequila sunset is packed with party-worthy color and well-balanced flavor, with tangy orange juice, sweet blackberry brandy and earthy tequila. Bonus points if you drink a tequila sunrise and tequila sunset in the same day.
